CALIFORNIA - commonly referred to by the nickname Mars the red planet. Mars name is taken from the ancient Roman god of war, in which the red color characteristic of blood that is attached on the planet.

Reported by Space, Friday (04/19/2013), bright colors and looks rusty on this planet is because Mars contain iron-rich minerals in the regolith. Regolith is the loose dust and rocks that cover the surface of the planet.
Earth also has a regolith soil, although most contain more organic content. How are things at the red planet? Mars too cold temperature, has a thin atmosphere, which indicates that the water can not currently appear on the surface of Mars.
Although the desert on the planet only half of the diameter of the Earth, Mars has dry lands. Mars is also home to the highest mountains and the deepest in the solar system.
Olympus Mons, has a height of approximately 17 miles (27 kilometers), which is three times the height of Mount Everest. While the system of Valles Marineris valley, whose name comes from the Mariner 9 spacecraft discovered in 1971.
This valley has a depth of up to 6 miles (10 kilometers) and runs along 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers). Mars also has the largest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons, including the diameter of 370 miles (600 kilometers).
Wide volcano is equivalent to the size of the state New Mexico. This volcano has a shield with a gradually increasing slope exactly Hawaiian volcanoes.
The ilmunan think, Valles Marineris largely formed by cracks caused by the stretching of the crust. One of the canyons (canyon) on Mars has a width of approximately 60 miles (100 kilometers).
The researchers also have discovered the existence of channels, valleys and gullies around Mars. This suggests the possibility that water once flowed on the planet's surface for several times.
Some channels have a width of 100 kilometers and a length of 2,000 kilometers. Scientists believe that water may still be in the cracks and pores in the rock underground. (FMH)
